Bumper crop of wheat this year together with not very bad weather has brought cheers on the faces of farmers as well anyone who is related with farm business including traders and commission agents in the Anaj Mandi’s of Sirsa and its townships. The unexpected huge arrival of wheat has come with its own perils especially in the Anaj Mandis, where wheat glut has made life of the dwellers of the Anaj Mandis and surrounding area miserable. Kapil Garg (Advocate) whose family also owns a commission agency business in the Anaj Mandi, Sirsa, informed SirsaNews that it’s true that the arrival has been much more than previous year but the bigger reason of the wheat glut is whimsical attitude of those who are engaged in lifting of the wheat, the contractors are not co-operating in lifting of the wheat on one pretext or the other especially in the additional Mandis. The monopoly of the contractor results in coercion upon the Commission Agents to pay extra money to the tractor owners to make the glut clear around their establishments. Similar views were expressed by Lalit Jain another commission agent in Sirsa main Anaj Mandi. Wheat can be seen in dunes and bags in all the colonies around the Anaj Mandi one of the reasons for this is also that some of the commission agents for their convenience make arrangements for purchase of wheat around the streets of their residential areas. Mr Kapil Garg has sent few pictures of the wheat glut taken via his cell phone s5360.

According to Mr Subhash Bishnoi an employee of HSAMB, this year Sirsa is expected to be number one in wheat procurement in Haryana.

Sh. Padam Jain INLD leader who is also running a commission agency business in the Anaj Mandi alleges that the government officials have closed their eyes to the whims of the contractor, the sufferers are farmers and the Commission agents.

Precursor of normal monsoon this year also – felicitous for Sirsa farmers

Precursor of normal monsoon this year also – felicitous for Sirsa farmers.

India's monsoon rains are likely to be within long-term averages in 2012, the weather office head said on Monday, reassuring farmers ahead of next week's official forecast from New Delhi.

Global weather experts will gather in Pune this week to assess the outlook for the overall south Asian monsoon at a meeting seen as a precursor to the official India prediction.

ARRIVAL in SIRSA

The monsoon season starts with the arrival on the Kerala coast on about June 1 and covers the whole country by mid-July. Its progress triggers planting of summer crops. In Sirsa normally the Monsoon rains knocks at the end of the 1st week of July, while monsoon enters Haryana from the Ambala side around 1st July. Pre-monsoon showers start in the 3rd or last week of June. Good rains in Ambala-Chandigrah-Patiala and foothills Shivaliks, the Morni hills, which is catchment area of Ghagger means plenty of water for irrigation in Sirsa and Hanumangarh via Ghagger system.

With the end of the La Nina weather pattern, associated with heavy rains in south Asia, and its opposite El Nino unlikely to start until August when much sowing is completed, neutral conditions are seen in India for the crucial first half of the season. "Normal rains are likely this year as the La Nina ended and has entered a neutral phase which is expected to continue till August," said D. R. Sikka, former director of the Pune-based Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology.
