A convention ‘Punjabi Milan Smagam’ held under the aegis of Punjabi Satkar Sabha yesterday at Kamalia Bhawan Sirsa, the chief guest Dr Kuldeep Dhindsa said that Punjabi is a beautiful language which is losing its sheen due to various factors especially in Haryana, he said that though English may be important for today’s demanding careers but it does not mean that one should learn English and other languages at the cost of mother tongue Punjabi. All languages can co- exist in perfect harmony. Dr. Dhindsa who is Director General of JCDV and an eminent scientist of international repute spoke in chaste Punjabi and only few knew till the audience was informed that he belongs to a Jaat family of Shahbad in Haryana, he himself is as fluent in English and Hindi is a living example of how many languages can flourish together. He narrated many anecdotes from his travel to Germany and other western countries where he met Punjabis dwelling from various parts of the world, various religions, various cultures, but all bonded by one common language: Punjabi.

Pardeep Sachdeva president of the Sabha anchored the stage in the beginning and then this region’s famous choreographer Sanjeev Shad took over to impress the audience with his deep voice and self composed shayree.

Mr Bhupinder Panniwala informed that they have procured Primers from DGMC and have tested it Dr. Gajendra Singh Raghav bureau in-charge Amar Ujala who hails from Uttar Pardesh, and found that he could effectively write and read Punjabi after using the Primer. Such Primers shall be distributed soon to aid the learning of reading and writing of Punjabi.

Ms. Tarranum Bharti an engineering student of JCDV who had also competed at Awaz Punajbi Di reality TV Show rendered four beautiful Punjabi Songs with the melodious background Music of Mr. Murari Verma who has cut several music albums.

Another Sufi singer from Sirsa Mr. Dilbagh Ali also gave his performance.

Mr Harish Bhatia SDM Sirsa said that apart from great job of promoting Punjabi that the Punjabi Satkar Sabha has taken up, the Sabha should also simultaneously make parents aware to take care of their wards and carve out responsible citizens out of them for the betterment of Punjabis as well as the Nation.

Mr. Surender Bhatia, journalist that great damage has been done by Punjabis themselves by recording their mother tongue as Hindi during several previous Population counts, this should not be repeated in the soon to be done Population Statistics, he appealed to all Punjabis.

Mr. Amarjeet Singh Kang, HOD Department of Punjabi KUK said that at the time of his first appointment to the newly started PG in Punjabi at KUK he had the option to take an appointment with PU, but he for the cause of Punjabi in Haryana opted for the Haryana’s KUK post, and since then there had been no looking back, he had dedicated himself to Punjabi, and in return Punjabi had fulfilled his every wish, coming from a very poor family, today he is HOD of Department of Punjabi all because of his unfazed love for this beautiful language.

Mr. Suresh Mehta president Bar Association Sirsa quizzed that although he is proud Punjabi but the today’s hapless youth who desires to get a job in Call Centers and its likes can do with his mother tongue where English dominates, to this Dr Kuldeep Dhindsa replied that all languages can co-exist beautifully, we should not bring forward Punjabi at the cost of English or Hindi but take it forward along with other languages.

Mr Jagat Narain Mehta a philanthropist, who runs free meals for the patients at Civil Hospital Sirsa since last several years, was awarded Late Sh. Rakesh Chitkara Punjabi Rattan Award.
Dr Gajendra Singh, Mr Kasturi Chabra, NRI Mr. Baltej Singh Dhaliwal Tehsildar Retd., Mr. Ravi Posh, Savjit Tinna, Ravinder Sharma, Dr Ramesh, Yashpal Chabra, Sanjeev Kalra, GS. IGNOU STUDENTS CONSTITUTE BODY TO PROTEST AGAINST CLOSURES OF STUDY CENTRES.
HUNDREDS OF students of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) today assembled in the local Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha Hall and constituted a students body ‘IGNOU Students council’ that would function under the guidance and banner of All India Students Federation (AISF) to fight the injustice by closing all the 37 Study centres of the University throughout Haryana by the present Bhupinder Singh Hooda government. Ajit Singh the founder president of the student body told today that for reasons best known to the Govt, not only the centres have been closed but the students have been left in the lurch as the students can neither appear for their practical examinations nor there is anyone to accept their assignments. He alleged that by this unwanted step the Haryana Government has negated the efforts of late Rajiv Gandhi who started this University to cater to the needs of the poor students belonging to the far flung rural areas who are otherwise incapable to pursue higher studies due to limited sources and also those who are already employed either in Private sector or in the government jobs. Mr. Singh alleged that apparently the study centers are being closed under pressure of the Private Sector which has opened various education shops to fleece the poor students in the name of education. He warned that in case the Haryana Government fails to reopen the study centers, they would intensify their agitation. He said that on February 12 they would submit a memorandum to the Haryana Chief Minister through the local Deputy Commissioner.

Badals would not be allowed to muzzle the voice of Haryana Sikhs-Jhinda

JAGDISH SINGH JHINDA, the president of (Ad hoc) Haryana Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (HSGPC) claimed that the Haryana Sikhs have resolved to achieve their goal of a separate Sikh body to manage their shrines in the state and their opponents like Badals or any other of their ilk would not be allowed to muzzle the voice or aspirations of the Sikhs in Haryana. While addressing media persons here yesterday he said that the Haryana State Congress led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda as well as UPA Govt. at the centre headed by Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh apparently succumbed under the pressure of some vested interests by putting of the genuine and legitimate demand of Haryana Sikhs of forming a separate HSGPC. Jhinda alleged that the Congress party in Haryana apparently backed out of its poll promise as mentioned in its pre-poll manifesto of forming a separate Sikh body after forming its govt. He reiterated that come what may the Haryana Sikhs would not rest till they achieve their aim and would teach the Congress a lesson in the forthcoming Parliamentary elections. He further alleged that the State Govt. had cheated the Sikhs by lingering on the matter ostensibly under the pretext of forming a non functional Chattha Committee. He declared that if by March 26 the Haryana Govt. fails to form a separate Sikh body, a ‘Sarbat Khasa’ of the Haryana Sikhs would be convened at Kurukshetra on March 27 to chalk out the future course of action and also to decide about the Sikh’s role in the Parliamentary elections. He also declared that after the ‘Sarbat Khalsa’the Haryana Sikhs would forcibly take into their hands the Kar Sewa of State Gurudwaras. He expressed his anguish and lashed out at Badals and some other vested interests for doing their best for stalling the procurement of some Gurus’ artifacts or the Horse belonging to the descendents of the Horse used by the 10th Guru Govind Singh for the ongoing ‘Shukrana Yatra’ traversing through Haryana.

THE SHUKRANA YATRA (thanks giving march) sponsored by the ad hoc Haryana Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (HSGPC) was started from Dabwali town of the district today around noon and has accorded a very warm welcome from all sections of society especially from the devout Sikhs from wherever it passed on its way to Gurudwara Chormar Sahib where it was to rest for the night today, said Jagdish Singh Jhinda the president of the HSGPC while talking to Sirsa News Editor at his home office. He said that the 35 day march after traversing thorough all the district of the state would culminate and conclude at the Gurudwara Nadha Sahib (Panchkula) on March 06. He said that the main aim of the ‘Yatra’ was to make the Sikhs aware about the glorious Sikh tenets and to ensure that they observe the Sikh ‘Maryada’in letter and spirit. He said that besides the Yatra would enthuse and exhort the Sikh youth who are showing wayward behaviour to abstain and refrain from the use of Drugs which was ruining their own future especially in this part of the state. Mr. Jhinda asserted that the Yatra would also educate the masses to abjure the Female foeticide and eliminate all social evils including Dowry system, bride burning and casteism etc., prevailing in the so-called modern society. He said that some relics including some horses the direct descendents of the horses belonging to the 10th Sikh guru Goind Singh Ji specially brought from Takht Hazoor Sahib, are also the nucleus of attraction of the masses during the Yatra. In reply to a question about some opposition of the ongoing Yatra from some quarters within the HSGPC, Jhinda reiterated that the decision of the Yatra was taken unanimously by the 11 member executive Committee of the HSGPC and that some of the detractors were also present in the meeting. Refuting the charge that he had deviated from the cardinal objective to achieve a separate Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee for managing the Haryana Sikh shrines etc., Jhinda claimed that all the decisions taken by the Haryana Sikh Sangat would be fully followed and implemented and that there was no question of abandoning the real goal of a separate Sikh body for Haryana.
